Description

Vacation under the refreshing thatched living room and open kitchen of our intricately woven palapa, with waves and breezes accompanying you day and night. Casa Maya is a unique Mexican coastal-style home built in 2012 by skilled native artisans using palm fronds, aged woods, hand-hewn stone and tile. It is perched directly on oceanfront with sandy beach on one side, and an infinity pool lapping from the other direction right into the living room. The surf break, with swimming beach and pods of whales, is visible as you sip your coffee from the palapa-woven living area. This artistic space includes a marble dining table with tree root base seating ten, lazy ceiling fans, two giant pillowed lounge couches, and a shady pergola directly off the edge of the pool. A spacious chef's kitchen with wet bar and walk-in pantry is central, the woodwork capturing authentic Mexican tradition, punctuated by a swirled shell backdrop and pounding ocean surf.

Rental of Casa Maya includes the entire villa, 4 suites, and only friends/family will occupy the villa together. However, at certain times of year, special arrangements may allow for rental of less than four suites, but still to only one party.

Nestled within the gated compound, the four suites (ceiling fan-cooled and air-conditioned) feature King beds and private outdoor terraces. Abundant tropical palms and flowers grace the oceanfront property, providing ample solitude and cozy resting spots.

Settle into--

La Ola and La Concha Suites: Two beachfront suites with King beds, cobbled outdoor showers for sun sprinkles or star gazing, a private shaded pergola terrace and direct pool/ocean access. Each suite sleeps 2 persons.

El Jardin Suite: This lower garden suite with King bed also has a double sofa-bed, indoor sitting area plus a wood-beamed outdoor terrace with huge siesta-pillowed couch and native bistro table offering veiled ocean views alongside an exotic garden with over 90 plant species and 16 species of palm. Sleeps 2 adults, 2 children.

Eight adults and four children is the maximum capacity of Casa Maya.

Our groundskeeper, Edud, looks out for the property, and daily housekeeping is also included, except Sunday. A cook is easily arranged, or maybe you prefer to barbeque outdoors on the Weber gas grill.

About the area

Casa Maya, just 3 kilometers north of Troncones, is an 8-minute beach walk from Manzanillo Bay, a great spot for surfing, bogey boarding, swimming and dining. It is located along the beachfront road north of the T in Troncones (where you can find groceries, a pharmacy, a charming community church), with over 20 restaurants both in the village and on the beach,as well as bike rental, yoga, and other amenities.) The other direction to the south of Casa Maya (about 5-minute walk) is a pueblo called Majahua, a tiny fishing village with an uncrowded beach for families with little ones who want to play in the waves, beachcomb for miles, or for anyone who wishes to dine with feet in the sand and waves splashing under the table. The locals in Troncones and Majahua are warm, responsive, and will go out of their way to help you experience the vacation of your dreams. They will boat you to snorkeling or surfing secrets, scour the beaches to bring you fresh lobster, deliver hot clay-oven baked rolls for breakfast carried in a head-borne basket, or provide fish, vegetables and fruit daily at your gate. You can rent bicycles for the day or for your entire stay, order a massage under your own Casa Maya palapa, take surfing lessons, ride horses, do yoga at 5-minutes walk from Casa Maya, or meander up or down the beach for wave-front dining and shell foraging. Zihuatanejo is a 30-minute drive away. Take a taxi or drive there, for a day of craft shopping, bicycling on exquisite mangrove-lined bike paths, snorkeling, shopping at the mercado, or eating at Zihua's array of mouth-watering restaurants. Playa la Ropa, Playa Linda, and Las Gatas are amazing beaches to explore, where you will grab a shaded palapa table and private hammock for the day, including food service with a smile, and a even a beach lounge at a bargain price. Best of all, your own privacy is guaranteed at Casa Maya, with alluring tidepools just down the path (kids love to explore them) as well as great swimming at Manzanillo Bay. Some guests hardly step away from the comfy couches perched in the cool breezes under the palapa, a mere jump into the infinity pool, or maybe just a good read and a well-deserved siesta without anyone interfering. Authentic Mexico

  • Submitted: Sep 15,2016

Casa Maya is a special and unique place, and the thought, and attention to detail Don and Chris have put into its creation is evident everywhere. The craftsmanship, and setting are exceptional. The rooms are huge and beautifully furnished, but the focal point of each day is the infinity pool and the Palapa. It doesn\'t get any better. The setting is georgeous, with the beach and Pacific only steps away. Our favorite part of our day was coffee in the morning, down on the sand in front of the Palapa. Claudia, Adelay, and Edud were super helpful, and quietly took care of everything while we were there. Another highlight was eating dinner at Martha’s and at El Toro, watching the fishing boats leave while the kids played in the surf. Magic! We were really lucky with the weather (we were there in September, and it rained only at night and the days were clear). The days seemed to run together so that we totally lost track of time. We didn’t really see any other Americans while there (low season), and most of the time we were the only people in the restaurants. We liked that. It was a great break and we felt like we experienced a much more authentic part of Mexico.

Paradise!!!

I helped my family book Casa Maya to stay for during my destination wedding in Troncones. From start to finish Don was not only helpful and a delight to work with but conveyed the same special loving energy Troncones has blessed us with. The house is AMAZING and decorated perfectly. The house staff is helpful and loving and kind. My family has never traveled together so this trip and home made it all the more magical. Don forever grateful!

Absolute gem!

We were a group of 7 staying over the Christmas break and we very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Maya. Everything was just perfect. We loved all the attention to details that the owners put into the place and especially how they designed the palapa area. Edud and Adely, the onsite caretaker and maid, were great - the property was spotless and gorgeous, inside and out. The main house, closer to the road, has two very spacious rooms. The bungalows are beachfront and are beautifully appointed. They are only a few meters from the pool and the mega-palapa. Everything on site is of high-quality (from teak doors to rustic metal sinks). Luxurious, yet unpretentious. The palapa was our favorite feature, as it stays cool all day (thanks to its size and three ceiling fans) and it has a huge kitchen where we could cook and mix drinks while keeping an eye on the kids playing in the fabulous infinity pool. The view of the ocean from the palapa is absolutely gorgeous - either from the king-size daybed or the massive semi-circular couch that faces the pool. The kitchen had pretty much everything we needed: quality appliances, utensils, dished and pots+pans. They even had a juicer (which we discovered on our last day!) and tons of glass containers with lids for saving leftovers or marinating our food. We would highly recommend renting this luxury villa for families or couples. Note that having a vehicle to get around to Troncones is highly recommended, as there are only a few restaurants that are an easy walking distance for families with children or elderly members.

A spectacular beach property”

We were spellbound from the moment we opened the gate into Casa Maya. We wove through the abundant tropical garden lush with flowers and succulents to an open 180 degree view of the ocean and distant Manzanilla Bay. Perched right on the beach is an expansive infinity pool that encircles the side of the outdoor kitchen and living area - A luxury campsite. Pelicans in flocks of 10 - 12 peel low over the site and horses approached from the beach offering rides. We could see surfers in the distance. The two front sleeping rooms are decorated with folk art and magnificent indigenous stone and ceramics. A double bathroom in each includes an outdoor shower enwrapped with bougainvillea and vines. Beautiful teak shutters allow for every adjustment for sun, wind and weather. A beautiful ocean breeze and surf sounds accompany every hour of the day. The temperature was perfect during our stay and even a bit of rain was welcome. The staff was like family and provided anything we needed and the local restaurants offered delicious fresh caught seafood. Surfing is close by and more recently mountain biking trails abound. Casa Maya offers a very special mix of native outdoor living and pure luxury. Our family of 9 with 3 children under 7 all found it close to paradise.
